The Gentleness of Sweet Soup

The name sweet soup may sound strange to Westerners but it is a major delicacy especially in the southern part of China. The Cantonese like sweet soups for both taste and health. Sweet soups are known for soothing the body, relaxation, and enhancing skin, beauty and voice. The effects have something to do with the concept of REN.

Sweet soups taste sweet but not to the extent of icecream or soft drinks, so no need to worry about high sugar. They are soups because of the softness and water content. They are vegetarian whose ingredients come from mostly beans, nuts, fruits, rice, seaweed and eggs. Sweet soups are usually served as desserts in small bowls in a Chinese restaurant. In Canton, there are plenty of snack shops specializing in sweet soups only.
